Canon created a large range of Sure Shot cameras over the years, ranging from amateur point and shoots to advanced cameras with great lenses. The Canon Sure Shot EX is one of these cameras; a mid-range point and shoot with a good lens for everyday use.
Here is our full review on the Canon Sure Shot EX, including sample images taken with the camera.

What is the Canon Sure Shot EX?
The Canon Sure Shot EX is part of Canon's point and shoot range, known as "Sure Shot". There are many cameras in the Sure Shot range, such as the Canon Sure Shot Supreme and Canon Sure Shot AF35M II.
The Canon Sure Shot EX was introduced in 1988 and was also known as the Canon Sure Shot Prima 4 or Sure Shot Joy. The name varies based on the country where the camera was bought.
What features does the Canon Sure Shot EX have?
The Canon Sure Shot EX has simple features that are easy to use.
The features include:
- 35mm f/4.5 lens
- Autofocus
- Built-in flash
- Self-timer
- Continuous shooting mode (up to 4 frames)
- Automatic rewind
The 35mm lens on the camera is one of its best features. It is a great focal length for everyday use and allows you to have a wide angle for capturing everything in your frame.
One of the features I like best about the Canon Sure Shot EX is its continuous shooting mode. By moving a switch on the back of the camera, you can select the camera to take up to 4 shots with one press of the shutter button. This is great for capturing action and movement. It is also a great feature when combined with the self-timer.
The self-timer allows you to set the Canon Sure Shot EX camera up and the exposure is taken 10 seconds after pressing the shutter button. Setting the continuous shooting mode and using the self-timer means you can take multiple photos whilst being in front of the camera. It is ideal for those group portraits where everyone is doing something different and it takes multiple attempts to get the photo just right.

What is the Canon Sure Shot EX ideal for?
We recommend the Canon Sure Shot EX for people looking for an easy-to-use, no frills point and shoot 35mm film camera to put in their bag and use everyday. It is the ideal companion for travelling. if you are not interested in faffing around with camera settings.
It can be used for everyday photography, street photography, portraits, travelling, and also can be used at night.
Many of our customers have purchased it as either their first film camera or the camera to go alongside their SLR cameras, for when they just want to carry something smaller and lighter.
Is the Canon Sure Shot EX good for beginners?
The Canon Sure Shot EX is a great camera for beginners as it allows you to just point and shoot. All of the camera's settings are automatic, meaning you can just focus on what is in your frame.

The continuous shooting mode was particularly useful for the images below, allowing us to capture movement in multiple frames.

Final Thoughts on the Canon Sure Shot EX
The Canon Sure Shot EX was a great companion for our brief travels. Its sturdy plastic gave the camera a durable feeling, which meant I was not worried about tossing it into a pocket or bag to bring it along on my adventures.
The results we got from the Canon Sure Shot EX were good and the focus was consistently sharp across all of the images. The sharpness of the focus and the good metering across the images meant the images were all great quality.
Whilst the camera is a little loud and not as elegantly designed as some other point and shoots, the Canon Sure Shot EX is a durable and good quality point and shoot. It is an ideal camera for your everyday adventures, travelling, and more.
