Sales Terms and Conditions

These are our terms and conditions. You agree to these when you place an order with us. Your statutory rights are not affected.


Every product we sell on our website has our full confidence to bring you great images, however these are vintage products and sometimes things do go wrong. We offer a 30-day warranty with all of our cameras. This means any issues must be brought to our attention within 30 days of delivery and if you wish you return your item, you must dispatch it to us within these 30 days. Of course, we expect every camera to last a lot longer than this. 


We offer 30-day returns, meaning you have 30 days to test the camera and make sure you are happy with it. Returns MUST be brought to our attention and dispatched within 30 days of delivery of the item. We do not accept returns past this period, however we want all our customers to be happy with their cameras and we will do our best to resolve any issues for you.

All of the cameras we sell are second-hand and vintage. This means they have already lived a long life. When they come to us, we service, clean, and do any necessary repairs. When a camera leaves our office, it is fully tested and we record the condition of the camera. This means your camera should be fully working when it arrives with you. If this is not the case, get in touch with as soon as possible. 

We recommend testing your camera with the roll of film provided for your first use. 

To avoid accidentally damaging a camera and breaking the mechanism, we suggest you do as much research as you can on how it works. If you are unsure about any product bought from us, get in touch! We love answering your questions, no matter how silly it may sound. 

We will accept back returns within 30 days. The camera must return to us in the condition it was dispatched with any accessories it was sent with. This means it has not been dropped, damaged, disassembled, or tampered with. This includes breakages to the item, scratches to the item, and any attempted repair by the customer (i.e. disassembling part of the item). 

The customer will be responsible for the cost of return postage to us and unless the camera is faulty, we will refund the amount paid minus the original postage cost and our restocking fee. Faulty cameras are dealt with on an individual basis. We really do care about our customers and your satisfaction, so we will do the best we can to resolve issues for you. We do not offer compensation for items taken to a different camera store for diagnosis or repair.

We also cannot offer compensation for issues from one roll of film that does not include the roll of film provided with the camera. This is because you may have used expired film or film exposed to x-rays and issues with these rolls of film may be mistaken for issues with the camera.

International returns must be marked as a return on the customs forms. Any import tax or duty fees incurred from your return will be deducted from your refund amount.

To start a return, you can contact us at hello@camerasbymax.co.uk. If your return is accepted, we’ll send you instructions on how and where to send your package. Items sent back to us without first requesting a return will not be accepted.

Order Cancellation

We reserve the right to cancel any order placed with us. This may be because we cannot currently ship to your location, or we have miscalculated our stock. You will be notified of any cancellation and receive a full refund. 

You can also cancel any order placed with us, perhaps if you accidentally bought the wrong thing. We recommend you do this as soon as possible. We are a small team, but we work very quickly to dispatch our orders. Order cancellations will incur our transaction fees and restocking fees deducted from your refund amount.

Postage and Delivery

We aim to dispatch all orders with 48 hours (Monday to Friday).

UK deliveries: orders placed with Standard delivery are dispatched with Royal Mail Tracked 48. Orders placed before 2pm will most likely be dispatched same-day (Monday to Friday). Orders placed with Express delivery will be dispatched with Royal Mail Special Delivery by 1pm. 

International deliveries: all of our international orders are dispatched Tracked and Signed. International delivery times vary greatly. You should expect your order within one to three weeks. If you do not receive your order within 31 days, please get in touch. Orders placed with Express delivery will be dispatched with DHL Express. The delivery times for these orders are between two and four working days. Please note: international deliveries may incur import charges and taxes. These are the sole responsibility of the buyer. We do not pay for the import charges and taxes. 

Holidays: there may be some delays during busy periods, such as Christmas. Any shop holidays will be clearly stated on the website. Any orders placed during these periods will be fulfilled when we return. To avoid any disappointment, we expect customers to take note of these clearly stated delays. Order cancellations will incur our transaction fees and restocking fees deducted from your refund amount.


Cameras By Max is not liable to give any compensation other than a refund for goods purchased from us. 

Repair Terms and Conditions

These terms and conditions apply to our repair and refurbishment services. When you send a camera or other item to us for these services, you agree to the following.


Cameras By Max is responsible for cameras from the customer until the cameras are posted back to the customer using a tracked postal service. All cameras and other photographic gear dispatched by Cameras By Max are insured with the courier at the current secondhand value. 

Cameras By Max shall not be responsible for any loss or damage whatsoever claimed by reason of repairs carried out, nor any damage, injury or loss from the use of the camera or other gear. No claims whatsoever will be processed for loss or damage to rolls of film left in the camera or sent with the camera.

Cameras By Max will try to return all accessories sent with the camera but is not responsible for these accessories that accompany the camera. 

Turnaround Time

Repair turnaround time and any dates given by for completion of repairs are only a rough estimate and Cameras By Max is not liable for any loss or compensation resulting from failure to meet any given dates. Failure to meet dates do not entitle the customer to cancel a repair.


A quote estimate is given for repairs before the work is commenced. The customer is obligated to pay the total quote when the work has been completed and the total amount has been confirmed by Cameras By Max. All customers are provided with an invoice detailing the costs. Any revisions or increases to the estimate will be sent to the customer for approval before work is continued.

When Cameras By Max give the customer an edited quote or increase in price and this is not accepted by the customer, Cameras By Max reserve the right to charge for handling and examination of around £15 plus return postage. No liability can be accepted by Cameras By Max for the re-assembly of equipment that has been disassembled for the purpose of examination. Any repair work that has already been done before the rejection of the revised estimate will be reversed. 

If goods are sent for repair at a later date to Cameras By Max, Cameras By Max is under no obligation to complete repairs for the cost previously quoted or to refund previous charges. 

If a quoted estimate is not accepted within 30 days from the date of estimate, Cameras By Max shall be entitled to dispose of the goods or charge a storage fee of £40. 

Quotes are subject to change in the event that further damage is revealed in the process of a repair and therefore the camera needs more work. These costs will be sent to the customer to be approved before continuing with the work.

Once work or the quoted estimate has been agreed to by the customer they are agreeing to the Terms and Conditions. If work has been proceeded and subsequently cancelled this will be subject to a penalty fee to be determined by Cameras By Max. 

Cameras By Max records any messages and emails exchanged between Cameras By Max and the customer for proof of business transactions. 

Payment and Returning Your Camera

Payment in full is required only once the repair has been completed or before any extra quoted parts are to be ordered. 

No goods will be dispatched until the confirmed receipt of payment. 

If the customer shall fail to pay the amount due for repair of the gear within one month of the date of completion, Cameras By Max may dispose or sell any or all Goods at an appropriate price and will retain all the proceeds of this sale. 


If the entire camera has been repaired or serviced by Cameras By Max, the entire camera has a guarantee of 30 days. Any partial repairs are only guaranteed for the part that was repaired, for example, if the advance mechanism was repaired and the light meter stops working two weeks later, the camera is not covered by the guarantee. 

The guarantee period starts from the date the item is dispatched from Cameras By Max. The guarantee only extends to the repaired camera and not any extra items with the camera, for example lenses if these lenses were not repaired or serviced.

The guarantee does not extend to any damage caused through transportation or misuse of the camera by the customer. The customer is responsible to check and test the camera upon receiving them and to use the camera correctly in order to make sure they are not damaged again.
